A note from the Superintendent

Greetings,

I am privileged to be serving as the Superintendent for Minidoka County School District. This is my 23rd year in Idaho public education and 12th as a Superintendent. My experiences have included teaching students on IEPS and working with at-risk students. As an administrator, I have been at both the elementary and secondary levels.

Districts tend to have a few issues at the start of each year. This year, our busing was terribly late after the first day. I very much appreciate your patience as we work to resolve the issues. Please know, however, that our drivers, school staff, and administration care deeply for your students. They went to great lengths to ensure students were on the proper buses and that no one was left on a bus or at the school.

As a district, there are other ways we are trying to help your students. First, all staff completed trauma training. Additionally, all teachers, counselors, and administrators completed dyslexia training. Elementary staff received more in-depth training, as it is imperative we do our best to catch reading difficulties as early as we can. Lastly, the district hired an administrator who will be over student behaviors and wellness. She will be responsible to provide staff with the necessary knowledge and skills to best address the behaviors we are seeing in our schools so that all students can effectively learn.

We know that you send us the best you have. Please know that we work to provide your child the best school experience (educational and extra-curricular) that we can. The more we work together as school staff, parents, and community members, the better the outcome will be.

If issues or concerns arise, please reach out to your child’s teacher, then to the building administrator, followed by the Superintendent, and finally the Board. With open and honest communication many of the issues and concerns we face can be dealt with at a low level, without escalation.

I am excited to be part of the Minidoka County School District and look forward to many great days ahead.

Spencer Larsen
